Football in Taiwan returned to the island last weekend as the new seven-team league kicked off, due to Covid issues we have seen many disruptions so it was great to see the league back again.

The first match of the 2022 Taiwan Premier League took place on Sunday and was live across the CTFA social channels. This saw Hang Yuen take on Ming Chuan University.

After a quiet first half, this game really came to life in the second half as we saw a goal each from Ik-seong Joo and Yu-Chieh Tsou in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to put Hang Yuan into a two-goal lead.

The match then ended 4-2 to the home side with their new Japanese star Shunya Ando impressing. It was not to be a winning return for the University side who were returning to the league after a year's absence.

After the match, Hang Yuen's head coach Chin-Hwai Hung said, "In the first half, Ming Chuan University's pressure tactics against us really worked, which led to our defence not keeping a good distance and allowing the opponent to have many second-wave opportunities to attack."

Speaking on his new stars such as Shunya Ando he added "They bring speed, goalscoring ability and attacking creativity, which we have lacked in recent years."

In the second match of the day, Taipower took on Taipei Athletic, with Chih-Hao Wen scoring a double having signed from China League One side Beijing BSU.

Goals from Chun-Chia Li and Che-Yuan Chan then made it four before Taipei Athletic got a late consolation as the game finished 4-1.

The evening match saw Taichung Futuro, a team of foreign players, take on the reborn Leopard Cat. This was to be the closest match with the Leopard Cat putting in a very good offensive display.

Despite this Shohei Yokoyama did open the scoring for Futuro before Leopard Cat made it 1-1 with a Pei-Lun Wei strike from close range with what proved to be the final goal of the night.

A draw for the new team in town will boost the morale of the players, for sure going into next week.
