Jeonbuk lose after three matches

The 2022 K League is now three games old and we are getting that fuzzy feeling when we think to ourselves are we going to see a Korean Champion that does not play in green. It's the hope that kills you but Pohang Steelers grabbing a 1-0 win away to Jeonbuk is a great result early in the season.

Looking at the match on Wednesday evening at the Jeonju World Cup Stadium, Jeonbuk kicked off with a 4-2-3-1 tactic. This saw Gustavo as the lone frontman playing off Han Seung-Gyu, Lee Seung-Gi and Park Kyu-Min. A tactic that clearly did not work as only the Brazilian Gustavo lasted 90 minutes.

Pohang matched their hosts with a front four of Lee Seung-Mo, Goh Young-Jun, Lim Sang-Hyub and Jeong Jae-Hee the latter getting the decisive goal.

It was a first half of defensive possession football, although the ball was in the net from Gustavo this was ruled out for offside. The visitors did look to threaten on the counter-attack too as we saw Grant the Australian defender have a header saved well from a corner.

In the second half, there was more goalline action and in 74 minutes the deadlock was broken from  Jeong Jae-Hee as he received a cross and calmly slotted the ball home. The hosts then did their best but failed to score and suffered their first loss of the season.

Ulsan is the side that has threatened over the past few seasons to ruin the title party but never do but they currently remain top as they won at home to Suwon 2-1. They did win despite the game not starting well as after 11 minutes they were a goal behind as Kim Seung-Joon scored the first goal for Suwon. This was seen as he headed home from a Lachlan Jackson assist.

The hosts came back though and Kim Min-Jun scored before the break, this arrived with a composed finish in the box after good play from Amano. In the second half, they took the lead from Georgian Qazaishvili who after missing a penalty scored with a good turning shot that took a deflection.

That was to be enough for the three points and next up for the league leaders is a visit to their foes Jeonbuk at the World Cup Stadium, can Ulsan make an early statement?
