Title race in Taiwan

The Taiwan Premier League is past the halfway point and we have a real title race on the cards. Current leader Taipower sit top after some inconsistent performances this season and with previous leaders Taichung Futuro dropping down to third shows you just how much the league can change at a blink of an eye.

Taiwan Steel racing up the league

The league matches are all played at the same time on a Sunday but the pick of those matches at the weekend was for sure was Taiwan Steel putting five past the Red Lions. This was a match that ended 5-2 and saw Taiwan Steel win their seventh match on the trot.

At the beginning of the season, we expected that the forward line of Marc Fenelus and Benchy Estama would cause defenders in the league lots of trouble. It did though take time as Taiwan Steel did not look able to gel but it now seems all in place as they now sit top of the league.

The pair between them have ten goals each with 20 goals and this is in 16 matches and maybe is less that we did expect at this stage of the season.

After the match, the Taiwan Steel coach Lo Chi-Chong commented: "After playing everyone twice, the side is getting better and better with each match, the players are also more comfortable with their positions."

The manager then added on Feng Shao-Chi performance "Liu Ho-Han originally plays as left-back, but he was injured in training a few days ago, so today we arranged Feng Shao-Chi to take his place, and he performed very well. I think he was the best player on the field today. In addition to his duty in defence, he is also often stepped forward to participate in the offence, including the second goal".

In all, it was a good weekend for the side who now sit second in the league behind Taipower. Moving on from this the latter won 3-2 at home against bottom side Ming Chuan University.

Elsewhere the side who many think can still win the league Taichung Futuro lost 2-1 at home to previous champions Taipei Tatung. The last game of the week then so the forever inconsistent Hang Yuen pick up a 1-0 win at home with Taiwan University.
