Ki Sung-yueng has been playing football in Europe for ten years now has he first came to the attention for Scottish football fans when he made his move from FC Seoul to Celtic in the winter of 2009. Now ten years later after time with Mallorca, he looks set to be heading back home to the Korean capital.

Ki heading to the K League

Ki Sung-yueng after leaving Newcastle United in December 2019 headed to Spain in February 2020 in the search for first-team football. This he hoped will come as he joined Mallorca but this has not worked out as he has made just the one appearance.

Then after picking up an ankle injury and his contract expiring at the end of June the player is now once again a free agent. His boss in Spain Vicente Moreno said: “Ki had bad luck. He only played a few minutes before the stoppage due to the pandemic but he was never able to recover his best physical shape.”

Now he is a free agent and with the Korean transfer market open many expect him to return to the K League. Despite the fact, FC Seoul is struggling this season the suggestion is that he will return to the club in which it all started.

A move fell through for the player when his contract was up in January and it is clear that FC Seoul is still keen as their manager Choi Yong-soo, last week said, “I answered in the last interview. A player who has played more than 100 games in the Premier League is a player who doesn't need to speak. There is no change at this time. It will be a great addition to the team at any time.”
