Taiwan's women's league got up and running today as the rest of the world has to endure football-less weekends because of COVID-19. Three matches took place and provided plenty of goals and drama.

Taichung Blue Whale and Kaohsiung Sunny Bank get the league underway

Taichung Blue Whale, who are last seasons champions and the strongest side in the women's league, started the defence of their title against Kaohsiung Sunny Bank in the opening game of the 2020 Mulan League season.

Taichung Blue Whale put in a strong performance, and defeated Kaoshiung Sunny Bank 5-1, putting down a marker to say that they will be in the mix again for another title. Taichung's goals came from  Hou Fang-Wei, Li Hsiu-Chin and Pao Hsin-Hsuan (2) with Kaohsiung's consolation goal coming from Lai Li-Chineh.

Taichung Blue Whale will likely win the league again, as they looked dominant.

Hang Yuen and Taoyuan fight for a draw

Hang Yuen and Taoyuan fought out an evenly matched draw in the middle game of the day. A very odd Pan Yen-Hsin own-goal handed the lead to Hang Yuen. The goal came from a free-kick, that was lumped a bit aimlessly into the box, then an old school Wimbledon style scramble ensued and the ball ended up pinged into the back of the Taoyuan net.

Chen Yen-Ping scored a good goal to put the sides even. However, neither side managed to find a goal to claim the win.

Taipei Bravo and Hualien provide late drama

Taipei Bravo and Hualien played out an entertaining 2-2 that provided some late drama. Wang Yi-Ting had put Taipei into a 2-0 goal lead, but a wonderful header by Tan Wen-Lin brought Hualien back into the match.

As the game rolled into the third and final minute of stoppage time, with Taipei looking like they had the win in the bag, Wu Shih-Ping popped up to stab the ball home from close range, pretty much right at the death. There was only time left to kick off and hoof the ball forward in a desperate attempt for one last attack, that didn't materialise and another game ended in a draw.
