The much talked about Gary White left his role in China with Chinese League One club Nantong Zhiyun in the middle of March. The announcement yesterday confirmed the Englishman’s replacement at the club he left despite steering them away from relegation last season as the side went the final six matches of the season undefeated.

Nantong Zhiyun bring in a young coach

On Tuesday this week, Nantong Zhiyun officially announced that former international Xie Hui will take charge as the new head coach.

Last season, the side began the campaign with coach Wei Xin but after his resignation former Taiwan and Hong Kong manager Gary White took over.

Here is a bit about the player from the official statement the club released;

After friendly negotiation between the two sides, Xie Hui will officially become the head coach and will lead the team on a new journey and fight for Nantong.
Xie Hui, born in Shanghai, China on February 14, 1975, is a former China international player. He was both a pioneer in the European football and a legendary player setting records with Shenhua.
He was the top goal scorer in his first season in Germany and the Silver Ball in the CSL (top goalscorer awards). After Xie Hui retired, he successfully transformed into coaching, starting from the grassroots level, while constantly gaining further coaching experience.
Since serving as Shanghai SIPG assistant coach, he has assisted many world-famous coaches and helped SIPG to overthrow Guangzhou Evergrande by winning their first top league championship trophy in their history.
As an outstanding representative of the young and strong coaches in Chinese football, Xie Hui not only has extraordinary learning ability but also has the ability to accept advanced football concepts.
He is also good at discovering young players and is a tactical thinking advocate for offensive football, which meets the needs of the club's future development. The young and dynamic Nantong Zhiyun will give Xie Hui a stage to perform. We believe that the cooperation of both parties can create even greater surprises.
