The former Arsenal, Barcelona and Rangers defender Giovanni van Bronckhorst has left his role with Manchester City to join Guangzhou R&F in the Chinese Super League. This comes after the Dutchman had a short stint working with the coaching team at Manchester City.

R&F need to win more

The 44-year-old head coach will join Guangzhou R&F as he replaces Serbian Dragan Stojković who had a very disappointing end to his time with the club. Comprising with just two wins in his remaining 12 matches of the season with the side finishing 12th.

On paper, this looks to be an exciting appointment with Van Bronckhorst having spent the last six months gaining experience from Pep Guardiola. It was not a coaching role he had with the club but more one used to gain knowledge from the world-class coaching team at Manchester City.

He will need all the experience he gained working in Manchester and in his time in charge of Feyenoord to steer his side up the league. As the club enjoyed one of their worse seasons with the 12th place finishes being their lowest since 2015. Along with this, they conceded 72 goals which were their highest total since they joined the CSL.

As he announced in his press conference over the weekend he hopes to improve the side by bringing in beautiful football this was seen as he said;
My main target is to win as many games as possible, I plan to do this by playing well. This will include attacking and defending well.
