Wu Lei and his Spanish side Espanyol currently sit bottom of La Liga with just ten points from the opening 17 matches of the season. Despite this, the China forward is confident his side will turn it around and stay in the league.

At the double

Things might be looking up for Espanyol as the side drew with Real Betis on the weekend and on Thursday evening won 2-0 thanks to a Wu Lei double against Lleida Esportiu in the Copa Del Rey. The hint of a mini-revival may have lifted the mood of Wu Lei and his side further too.

It comes after the attacker said on the situation his side finds themselves in earlier this month;

We really need a win and I'm sure that when we win a game everything will change, I feel better all the time.

He has not played for his club in the league since the beginning of December so am sure his double in the week will of come as a huge relief for the player.

Further positive news came also as the club owner Chen Yansheng seems to be keeping faith in the side. It comes after he said he will look to sign players in January and is not looking to get out and sell the club.

The club also have a last 32 Europa League tie with Wolves to look forward to after the new year in the battle of Chinese owners. Although in the present they play the second bottom Leganes and win could take them to within two points of exiting the relegation zone.
