Chen Yi Wei fractures tibia and returns to Taiwan

Chen Yi-Wei is an integral part of Taiwan's squad, and has been for some length of time. He had just returned to the Taiwan starting line up in their last match against Australia, and kept his place for the game in Kuwait.

Chen Yi-Wei fractures tibia at 0-0

Chen Yi-Wei lined up in a 5-man-midfield against Kuwait in Taiwan's previous World Cup qualifier. The three-man midfield worked well against Australia so it was no surprise when Taiwan lined up with a similar performance in Kuwait City.

Yi Wei flew into a tackle to try and win the ball with Taiwan starting to come under the cosh. It was evident that something wasn't right once Yi-Wei tried to stand up. He is going to be a big loss in Amman tomorrow night when Taiwan take on Jordan to try and overcome that 9-0 loss against the group's second seeds.

Yi-Wei is a battler and leader, and we are by no means saying if he didn't go off Taiwan wouldn't have lost as badly as they did. If he was on the pitch, however, would he have managed to encouraged Taiwan to keep their heads up? Possibly, and if that happened maybe the loss might not have been so bad.

Flew back to Taiwan for surgery

Chen Yi-Wei was taken to see a doctor in Kuwait after the game, and he recommended that he should travel back to Taiwan and get surgery ASAP instead of travelling with the team to Jordan. Therefore, the CTFA (Chinese Taipei Football Association) have sent him back to Taiwan and will help apply for all the relevant insurance.

We wish Chen Yi-Wei makes a speedy recovery, and we see him back in the heart of Taiwan's midfield again.
