Urawa Reds in Control

The Asian Champions League returned this week as Urawa Red did battle with Guangzhou Evergrande. While it was to be the J League 1 side on the horrific form who run out 2-0 winners to find themselves in pole position to make their second final in three seasons. 


Spectacular goals win the match 

Goals from Fabricio and Takahiro Sekine won the first legged tie for the home side. Meaning that Urawa Reds will take a healthy 2-0 first-leg advantage over to Guangzhou Evergrande in two weeks.

The first goal in this match came within twenty minutes from Brazilian Fabricio, a goal that was fitting to win any match. It was so good in fact is was nominated for Allianz Goal of the Week although it did not win.

The goal came as Fabricio picked up possession 25 yards from goal and he showed no hesitation in striking a right-foot shot into the top left corner of his goal.

In all the Reds dominated the first half and were unlucky to goal in ahead by only the single goal. It then took till 75 minutes for the Japanese to double their lead.

The second came in style also as Sekine unleashed an unstoppable drive that gave Zeng in the away goal no chance.

The result now means that the J League 1 side goes into the second's leg has firm favourites. Fabio Cannavaro’s side will need to pull off a great performance to reach the final.
