Hong Kong name 23-man squad

Mixu Paatelainen has now named his 23-man squad to face Iraq on Thursday in Barsa. It looks like he's gone for a blend of youth and experience as he searches for his first three points.

Youth and experience

As Hong Kong has all but not the hope of progressing out of Group C for most of these matches are about preparing for the future.

The Finnish coach looks to agree with this as he's brought a blend of youth to step in alongside some experienced heads.

An example of this is the inclusion of Sandro at 32-years-old along with his Tai Po teammate the 19-year-old forward Sun Ming-him. Although a youngster who just missed the cut was Eastern's midfielder Yue Tze-nam.

It seems despite all the unrest in the country at the moment that the national team coach remains confident in his side.

This was seen as he told the South China Morning Post “The squad is well balanced in terms of positions and it is also a good balance between the younger players and older players. Experienced players are very important [to have] especially against tough teams such as Iraq because everybody knows the quality Iraq possesses. It’s also good to have good and energetic team members coming into the team.”
