Still a title race in China?

To the Chinese Super League and with five matches remaining we still have a title race. This is seen with three clubs still in with a chance of lifting the trophy. Guangzhou Evergrande is still in pole position despite having not won in their last three.

Three horse race

In recent weeks it had looked like the title race was over but after the weekend's results, a tight title race has very much reemerged.

This was seen as last weekend Evergrande lost for the second time in a row this time at home to Wuhan Zall 1-0. Meanwhile, second-placed  Beijing Guoan won 3-0 away to Tianjin Tianhai and third-placed SIPG picked up a home 2-1 win over Henan Jianye.

This left the league table as seen below with Evergrande on 59 points, Guoan on 58 points and SIPG with 56 points.

This season started with Guoan on top as they collected ten consecutive wins to start the campaign. This saw them lead the CSL by eight points at one point.

Evergrande fought back though and picked up 13 league wins in a row after losing to Guoan back in May. The title race once again showed it's unpredictability though as since that run came to an Evergrande have not picked up three points.

Then there are last seasons champions who lost their key man in Wu Lei who have kept consistently behind the top two for much of the season. The Shanghai side now only sit three points off the top with every chance of retaining the championship trophy.
