Wu Lei scores early

Espanyol might have kicked off the La Liga season with a 2-0 defeat at home, but it was all smiling in the Europa League last week. This was due to them defeating FC Luzern with Wu Lei scoring inside three minutes to help his side to a 3-0 win.

Wu Lei just getting started

Wu Lei's goal for his club meant he became the first Chinese player in 2229 days to score in European competition. It also helped his side set up a playoff tie with FC Zorya Luhansk of Ukraine.

His well taking headed finish am sure will help keep him in the mind of head coach David Gallego as he starts the league campaign. That seems to be the case also as he played 70 minutes for his club against Sevilla at the weekend.

Am sure that the goal is just the start as Wu Lei starts to make his mark in Europe. It is clear at least he will have a better career than the last Chinese player to score in European competition.

As that great honour was held by Wang Chu, who scored for Luxembourg side Jeunesse d'Esch in the 1st Qualifying Round of the Europa League. This was a match his side lost 2-1 into Finnish side TPS and now the Chinese forward plays for Sichuan Jiuniu in China League Two.
