The third round of the Emperor's Cup took place on Wednesday as we saw a few shocks. As with cup competitions around the world, bigger teams can take it easy but the shocks seen today were still a surprise. This is true as league leader FC Tokyo lost to Ventforet Kofu of the J League 2.

FC Tokyo fall

The FC Tokyo defeat did come against a strong J League 2 side that will be looking to be in the J League 1 next year. It was very much a weakened side for the league leaders and this was seen with a strike force of Hara and Tagawa who are both only 20-years-old.

After the 1-0 win for Kofu, thanks to a Kota Mori 56 minute strike, the FC Tokyo striker  Hara had this to say “I couldn't finish my chances, I have the feeling that I can do more. I'd like to be firmly ready for the next challenge when I get more game time. ”

Other matches

Away from the FC Tokyo shock, we saw Vissel Kobe win 4-0 against J League 2 side Omiya Ardija with a brace from Tanaka and a goal each for Fujimoto and Ogawa. Then there was the big win for Júbilo Iwata as they defeated Vanraure Hachinohe by six goals without reply.

Elsewhere we almost saw a shock as Kawasaki Frontale were taking to extra time by Fagiano Okayama. In the end, however, they won 2-1 in extra time.
