April 25 SC face Dhaka Abahani in AFC Cup quarter final

North Korea's most successful team are in action tomorrow night against Bangladeshi side Dhaka Abahani for a place in the semi-final.

April 25 SC will always make the later stages of the AFC Cup

April 25 SC are again in the final stages of the AFC Cup, and they always will be. This is at least until either the rest of the East Asian zone catches up to the quality of the North Koreans, or the AFC decide to change the format of the AFC Champions League, allowing more countries to join.

April 25 SC would then stand a chance of being one of the clubs to take up a spot along with Hong Kong along with a host of South-East Asian sides.

Right now, however, the rest of East Asia can't compete with April 25. Sides in Mongolia, Hong Kong, Guam, Macau and Taiwan have all lost to April 25. In fact, I don't believe any team from the nations above have registered a win against the North Koreans.

There is a distinct quality gap between the rest and April 25. I had hope one of the Hong Kong sides would finally usurp them, but it was not to be. The East Asian AFC Cup zone must be one of the weakest. This could April 25 back when they get to the final stages because they haven't faced similar level competition that they would have in other Asian regions.

The Bangladeshi side has defeated sides from India and Nepal. The first leg will take place at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on August 21st with the return leg taking place in Pyongyang on September 11th.
