In recent weeks Rakuten Sports have started to show J League matches via online streaming in over 140 countries. A sponsorship deal that has helped bring in Wolrd Cup winners to the club in Lukas Podolski, David Villa and AndrĂ©s Iniesta.

On the release of this news Rakuten chief resource officer, Makoto Arima said “Rakuten believes that sports can overcome the boundaries of language and culture to connect people and develop communities. We want to share the J League’s appeal with soccer fans around the world and increase its fanbase.”

“In the last few years, the number of famous players such as Iniesta and Fernando Torres has joined the league and attention from overseas has increased. We want to raise the global value of the J League and introduce the competition to more fans.”

This is great news for fans of the J League although at present the games seem to be limited to matches involving Consadole Sapporo, FC Tokyo and Vissel Kobe seem to pick so its not a wide range of matches.
