Do Evergrande need Browning?

Guangzhou Evergrande might have lost out in the FA Cup to Shanghai SIPG but they still currently sit top of the CSL. The side has been barely out of the news this season with many crazy calls on players eligible to play for China. One of the players in the middle of this is former Everton man Tyias Browning.

Browning in limbo

Tyias Browning may have played just four times for his club this season but his importance to the team is not lost on fans of the game. An example of this was seen earlier in the season when Guangzhou Evergrande faced Shanghai SIPG in a match between two sides eager to gain the CSL title.

Then with Browning part of a five-man defence with fellow foreign aid Park Ji-Soo, he helped his side to a 2-0 win. His athletism and speed proved a key part then in helping his side keep a clean sheet against the current CSL champions.

Unfortunately, since then his game time has been limited with his clubs own rule of playing only two foreigners rather than three being a key factor to this. As Browning was brought in to become a Chinese citizen his club will not give him game time till he is one.

This was seen as his side did not list him in their squad for their upcoming Asian Champions League matches. He is still now on a pending list for naturalisation, the reason for this is unclear.
