Mongolia managed to survive a massive scare away in Brunei as they scraped through their World Cup qualifying tie against Brunei to survive the squeaky bum test.

Mongolia survive major scare to qualify

Mongolia went into the second leg of their first round qualifying tie against Brunei with a 2 goal lead, and seemingly a place already in the second round. Maybe their players thought the job was already done in Ulaanbaatar because Brunei raced into an early 2-0 lead, meaning the tie was level on aggregate.

Mongolia were close to throwing the game away, but managed to get a consolation goal right after half time, making the game 2-1 on aggregate. This likely shows that they got the hairdryer treatment at half time, which they clearly deserved after throwing away their 2 goal advantage from the first leg.

The Mongolia goal, meant that Brunei needed to score 2 more goals without reply, because Mongolia had that precious away goal. Mongolia managed to get through a tough night in Brunei by surviving squeaky bum time to take their spot in the second round.
