Reshuffle at the CFA

The CFA was at it again this week as they announced after two matches with Fabio Cannavaro that Marcello Lippi would return as manager of China. Meanwhile, FIFA announced the 2022 World Cup would not be extended to 48 countries.

Just the one more year

It's been reported that the 71-year-old this time as just signed the one year contract with the national side. It's occurred that his wage will be covered by Guangzhou Evergrande.

I would imagine the idea that the national side might be stronger with players like Nico Yennaris and Elkeson, for example, looking set to become Chinese citizens and therefore eligible for the country.

I would think that the nation must have a long term plan for the manager of China but with Fabio Cannavaro side looking so poor at the China Cup they have to act fast.

Overall the Lippi's time with China as not been much to write home about but he has led the country to wins over South Korea in a 1-0 home win in 2017. This was their first win over Korea in 32 years with both countries having full strengths sides.

At times then China has looked good in recent years but the salary reported to be around £20 million as not seen enough back for its investment.

This now a new era with China as the side with the oldest team at the Asian Cup will need a reshuffle. Then with players retiring or just not being good enough anymore younger players will need to be given a chance. Trusting youth is something that we have not seen Lippi do much of so let's see if that changes when the World Cup qualifiers start in September.

Although first next week, we will see China take on Tajikistan and the Philippines as the national side will look for two wins to get up with world rankings and improve their standing.
