Benteke to China

Reports in the English media this week seem to suggest that Christian Benteke could be off to China. This time the unnamed club is Shandong Luneng meaning that if the rumours are true he will join his countryman Marouane Fellaini at the club.

£15million for a player with one goal?

The stories coming out in the media suggest that the CSL side has offered Crystal Palace £15million for the players' services. That seems like a lot and I think that sum might be slightly off if this does come off though it would see him pair up front with former Southampton man Pellè.

If this signing is to come off the club would need to allow a foreign player to leave as a club can only play three foreigners in a match at a time. At the moment Shandong has four players from outside of China and I expect if the Belgium striker did sign it would mean Brazilian Roger Guedes would leave the club.

That would be a big call though as there's not guarantee that Benteke would do well and with his price tag he'd have too. If the club would meet the price tag on top of what is reported that the player eanr with a year left on his contract at Palace, he is the club’s joint-top earner on £130,000 a week.

A deal worth £8 million a year (more than £150,000 a week) after tax by the Chinese club is said to be on the table.

That seems like far too much money for a player who scored just once last season for his club. We shall wait and see how this pans out but I would be surprised to see it happen.
