Wu Lei scoring in Spain

Espanyol sits ninth in La Liga and their hope of European football this season seems to have been lost. They still are looking like a good side and one on the up having not lost in their last five matches. A key player for them attracting a lot of interest in China is attacker Wu Lei who scored his second goal for the club last week.

Wu Lei settling in well

Sometimes you see a big star in Asia move to a league like Spain and you wonder is it more for shirt sales than what he does on the pitch. It could be said after the players €2m signing this January he is doing both.

As reports in China suggested that 40 million people in China watched the players debut. Am unsure if this is true but for a country where football is not massive yet, anywhere close to this figure is impressive.

On Wednesday he showed he is not there just to sell shirts as he picked up his second goal for the club in a 1-1 draw with Celta de Vigo. The goal came on 33 minutes as he volleyed home breaking the deadlock, this ended his six-game scoring drought too.

It looks now that the public in Spain is warming to the Chinese player after muted admiration for him after his first couple of months. You could see that the players does feel the pressure but is rising to it as you could see from his celebration in the week, life in Spain is treating him well.

It looks that the player is ready to kick on and am sure will be a key player next season for the Catalonia side. He said when he joined he would need time to get used to the league and he as now had this time and his showing his quality.
