A link with Serbia in the CSL

Guangzhou R&F are a side in the Chinese Super League and they have an important part to play in the history of the game in China too. Although recently they have gained interest from an Eastern European nation in the form of Serbia.

R&F and Serbia

In August 2015 the former coach of Yugoslavia Dragan Stojković took charge of Guangzhou R&F in the CSL. In this period his appointment has been a general success as seen with the coach currently contracted to the club till 2020.

In his time with the club the Serbian as done a positive job keeping the club in mid-table on one of the leagues smaller budgets. This is especially impressive as he does this job in the shadow of city rivals Guangzhou Evergrande who won seven league titles in a row. Their dominance ended last season when they were pipped to the title by Shanghai SIPG.

A player who is a key part currently of Stojković side is Serbian international Duško Tošić who signed halfway through last season from Turkish side Beşiktaş. Although the players not played yet this season he is expected to play a part in upcoming matches.

CSL getting attention in Serbia

This week the link between the CSL and Serbia was again shown as Guanshou R&F welcomed visitors from Serbia to their training ground. They were met by head coach Dragan Stojković who told them about the club it's been reported. It is also said that they talked about creating a link between the two nations.

As a link with Guangzhou and Vojvodina in Serbia could be set up I understand from the article I read. Vojvodina is in Northern Serbia and close to Belgrade their biggest team is FK Vojvodina based in Novi Sad the second biggest city in Serbia. On a side note, the home stadium for the club is the Karađorđe Stadium a ground where I once saw Bale score a 20-yard free kick as Wales lost 6-1.
