Japan join the Asian Cup party

Japan will enter the Asian Cup tonight as they face Turkmenistan in their opening group game. Japan is going into the competition as not only clear favourites to finish top of their group, but also strong favourites to make it to the final.

Japan should overcome plucky Turkmenistan

Japan should have enough in their locker to overcome a plucky and physically strong Turkmen side in their opening game at the Asian Cup. This is the first time that this young new look Japanese side will play competitively in a major tournament and I am very excited to see their new attacking talent.

Minamino and Doan have been in excellent form but it is a blow to not be able to see how Nakajima performs, as he is constantly linked with a move to Wolves through their dodgy Portuguese links. Turkmenistan will try to get into the face of Japan and disrupt their sexy, free flowing-technical style of footy. They will fail in their mission but it remains to be seen whether the game will be a close fought affair or not. I think it will be a close game with Japan prevailing by the odd goal, as the Turkmen put up a brave fight in their first appearance at the finals for donkeys.

Nakajima's injury is a blow

Shoya Nakajima getting injured was a blow, because I was hoping that Japan would start with Nakajima - Minamino - Doan providing the assistance behind Yuya Osaka up front. The attacking trident has been lethal in the games after the World Cup and as I have only managed to catch highlights from their friendlies due to be stuck at work, I was hoping I'd get a chance in the Asian Cup. That, however, is not to be due to the injury sustained by Nakajima and he has since been replaced in the Japan squad.

He will become a massive player for Japan in the future, with the Japanese potentially have a colossal attacking line up for the future which could even become better than the likes of Kagawa and Honda eventually. The future is going to be exciting for Japan if they keep managing to produce these kinds of attacking players.
