Under 23 Asian Cup

The Asian Under 23 Cup kicked of this week in Jiangsu an eastern-central coastal province of China, where the whole tournament will be hosted on it's 3rd anniversary. China, Japan, North Korea and South Korea are representing East Asian football here and all three have now played their opening games.

Let's have a look back at how all three got on;

China kicked off the tournament as the host nation on Tuesday against Oman and they run out substantial winners in a 3-0 win. The goals came from Li Xiaoming (Shenzhen FC), Wei Shihao (Beijing Guoan) and Yang Liyu (Guangzhou Evergrande). The game was very comfortable for the Chinese and they are sure to face tougher games. All three goals for China came from crosses in to the box and the third was a cracking header from Wei Shihao, he celebrated also by capping his ears so am sure he knew.

Japan and North Korea both played on Wednesday but first Japan faced a very well organised Palestine side. Japan came away with a 1-0 win but again will have to perform better if they are to go far in this years tournament. Japan only goal came in the 20th Minute from Ko Itakura (Kawasaki Frontale). It was a well taking goal from just outside the box which seemed to leave the keeper flat footed.

North Korea

Now to North Korea and despite all the trouble we hear about from the country, their football team is not too bad. We had a chance to see this as they beat an ever improving Thailand side 1-0. The goal coming very early in the first half from Ri Hun, it was a very well taking goal from the North Korean as he slotted it past the keeper after finding himself 1 on 1 with him. You will notice I have not said who Ri Hun plays for and that is down to not being able to find any information on him.

South Korea

We now go south for South Korea and for one of the strongest sides in the competition. They played on Thursday and run out 2-1 winners over Vietnam. The goals came from Cho Young-wook and Lee Keun-ho the young Koreas looking very strong, although this game did offer a great penalty, you have to watch the video to see.

After a first week in of the Under 23 Asian Cup all 4 of the East Asian side have looked strong and we hope for more of the same as the competition countries.
