This weekend with six games before the end of the season the K League 1 already crowned Jeonbuk Motors champions of Korea once again. This was to be the clubs second title in a row and their third in four years.
The side only missed out on the championship in 2016 due to being docked points after it emerged a club scout had made payments to referees in 2013. Despite this scandal, the Jeonju club continues to dominate the league.
Then with the league split coming after the next round of fixtures this was to be a very early title for Jeonbuk Motors.
How was the league won?
It could be argued that the league was won long ago but the actual official title came on the 7th October after Jeonbuk drew 2-2 with Ulsan. Then with Gyeongnam losing 1-0 to Jeju United, the title was confirmed.
The league race might not have been exciting but at least, the league was clinched in an exciting manner. This was due to the Korean champions claiming a point in this game thanks to a 94th-minute penalty from Lee Dong-Gook.
The penalty was given as Kang Min-Soo who had just come on as a substitute to run down the clock brought down Son Joon-Ho. It was an easy decision for the referee and with the penalty going in and the full-time whistle going it confirmed Jeonbuk Motors as champions.
The small band of away fans celebrated in the away end as they cheered their club on to another league title. Now for the team maybe next season they will go for the Champions League.
