North Korean side 4.25 SC (pronounced April 25th Sports Club) defeated Singapore league Champions Home United in their first leg tie of their AFC Cup inter-zonal semi-final. That puts them in the driving seat to secure passage to the inter-zonal final.
4.25 SC won the game 2-0, and it will take a mighty effort from Home United to overturn that 2 goal deficit when they head to the North Korean capital Pyongyang for the return leg.
4.25’s next opponent will likely hail from Turkmenistan
Could this be called the battle of the hermits? Both countries are notoriously difficult to enter and have a nosey around. The Turkmenistan team in question are Altyn Asyr FC. Altyn defeated Indian side Bengaluru 3-2, meaning they will take a slender lead and 3 away goals back to Turkmenistan for the return leg.
There’s more chance of Bengaluru turning this around than Home United, but the Turkmenistan side hold the advantage and we think it will be too much for Bengaluru to turn it around because we expect the Turkmenistani team to score again at home. If the Turkmenistan side score again it would mean Bengaluru would then need 4 goals and that would be them pretty much out.
Fantastic teamwork was the key
Goalscorer Pak Myong-song says the good teamwork from him and his teammates are what helped them get through this tricky looking away fixture and come out with an excellent victory. Home United struggled to get to grips with the North Korean’s sides physical and direct approach which enabled 4.25 SC to dominate a lot of the attacking play in the first half of the game.
Goalscorer Pak said, “I am so happy I was able to score this goal for the team and we were able to win the match”. He went on to add, “The result is really about our team’s fantastic teamwork and preparation. Now we have the second leg to come in Pyongyang and I will help my team to get a good result.”
4.25 SC exited at this stage of the competition to Indian side Bengaluru who they could possibly meet in the inter-zonal final, but we expect it’s more likely they’ll play the Turkmenistan side this time around.
