Jordi Cruyff named Chongqing Lifan manager

Cruyff replaces Bento

Chongqing Lifan have been on a terrible run of form and find themselves sitting in 14th position of the 16 team Chinese Super League. This puts them one spot above the two relegation places, and Chongqing Lifan have decided it is time to press the panic button and replace Pauo Bento.

The man brought in to replace Bento is Jordi Cruyff who has been at Israeli side Maccabi Tel-Aviv for six seasons. Maccabi lifted three league titles and three domestic trophies during Cruyff's stay at the club, and qualified for the Europa League group stage on three occasions and the Champions League once.

Cruyff will give 200%

Cruyff has promised to repay Chongqing Lifan’s faith in him by giving them 200% effort. You heard that right, he is double the footballing cliché of giving 100%. Chongqing Lifan will be hoping that 200% effort can kick instantly and manage to propel them back up the league towards safety.

The key for Cruyff is that they still have to play the two teams below them, and the team just above them. Those games could be crucial if he wants to make sure Chongqing Lifan will stay up or go down.

Dalian’s form has picked up slightly

Dalian Yifang are the team just two points behind Chongqing Lifan, Dalian has a terribly bad start to the Chinese Super League season. However, since they changed their manager their form has started to pick up slightly and last weekend they even defeated the mighty Shanghai SIPG 1-0 with the winning goal coming from Yanick Carrasco.

That Shanghai team also included Hulk, Oscar and Wu Lei in their starting line-up who are three of the best attacking players in the Chinese Super League. Dalian’s form picking up could have made Chongqing Lifan bash the panic button. It’s now down to big Jordi to see if he can keep them in the CSL or not.
