Brazil refuse Beijing Guoan’s Renato Augusto request

Beijing Guoan requested that Renato Augusto not be called up to Brazil squad for friendlies

Beijing Guoan made a request to the Brazilian Football Association to not call Renato Augusto up to the Brazil squad for their up-and-coming friendlies against the USA and Ecuador. Brazil have decided to refuse this request from the Chinese Super League club and call him up to the squad anyway.

Renato Augusto has become an integral part of Beijing Guoan’s title challenge and it’s no wonder they desperately wanted to keep him in the squad for the games to come considering he has played a major part in a large majority of the clubs goals over the course of the season so far.

Beijing Guoan are involved in a four way title race

Beijing Guoan are currently involved in a four way title race in this seasons Chinese Super League. The clubs involved are Shanghai SIPG, Guangzhou Evergrande and Shandong Luneng. However, Guoan have played 2 games more than both Shanghai SIPG and Guangzhou Evergrande and a game more than Shandong Luneng.

As things stand currently, Guoan are leading the way on 45pts from 21 games, Shanghai SIPG on 42pts from 19 games, Guangzhou Evergrande on 39pts from 19 games and Shandong Luneng on 38pts from 20 games. Guoan led the way at the half way point, before the Chinese super League took a break for the World Cup, since the league has started up again the two persistent CSL challengers have chased down both Guoan and Luneng. Luneng have been overtaken and Guoan are looking over their shoulder cautiously, if any of these sides are going to stop Guangzhou Evergrande from winning the league again it is most likely going to be Beijing Guoan.

Guoan face crucial top of the table clash without Augusto

The reason for Beijing Guoan requesting that Renato Augusto doesn’t get called up to the Brazil squad is most likely because they will face a top of the table CSL clash against Guangzhou Evergrande on September 14th, which is only 3 days after Brazil are scheduled to face Ecuador in their friendly.

If they want to use Augusto in the crucial match, it is likely that he is going to be jetlagged from travelling back from South America to China, and it’s very unlikely he will have any time to train with the squad. For Guoan’s title ambitions this is a must win game, whereas Evergrande can afford to draw, especially with the games in hand they have on Beijing Guoan. Guoan are likely to be spitting feathers that Brazil have rejected their request but there isn’t a lot they can do about it because the friendly matches are taking place in an official FIFA international window, therefore the club has no choice other than releasing the players for international duty.

Guoan have to just accept it, and decide whether to play Augusto in the key fixture or give him some resting time, it is going to be a league defining decision.
