This week it was announced that Taiwanese defender Wang Geon-Myeong would be joining K League 2 side Gwangju FC.
Who is Wang Geon-Myeong?
He is a defender who plays for Taiwan despite being born in South Korea. The player recently made his debut for his country in the summer Hero Intercontinental Cup where he played in all three matches.
The player normally plays right back and has been signed from Cheongju City FC (K3 League Advance). While the player originally came through at Jeju where he played often in a more attacking right-wing role.
On singing to the K League 2 the defender said "With my experience from the K3 League Advance I will look to improve and try to help my team as much as I can".
Wang Geon-Myeong was one of the standout players for Taiwan in a difficult Intercontinetal Hero Cup
Wang Geon-Myeong made his debut for Taiwan playing in the invitational competition in India against India, New Zealand and Kenya. Taiwan found the tournament to be a difficult experience and a steep learning curve, losing all games and failing to score.
There was one player who really stood out and tried to drive the team forward at every given oppurtunity and that man was Wang. Each time he got the ball at right full back, he would attempt to drive it down the wing to start attacking moves. This helped drive Taiwan down the field into the opponents half, and there is no doubt Gwangju will be looking for him to do the same for them.
