Kagawa and Honda fighting for a starting place

Japan like South Korea has arrived in Austria for two World Cup warm-up matches. First up for Japan will be a game against  Switzerland today.

Tactically it will be interesting to see how Japan line up today as the new coach tried a different system in the 2-0 defeat against Ghana last week. As in this game, he used a  3-4-2-1 with Ōsako of Köln up top.

Although after the defeat it will be interesting to see if Nishino reverts back to the 4-2-3-1 formation against Switzerland.

Confidence seems to be good as Kagawa spoke with the media beforehand he explained, "I have worked hard in training this week to get in the team" the Dortmund midfielder seemed excited as he spoke with the media.

Meanwhile, Honda and Kagawa fight for a starting place as it looks like there is only room for one of them in the first 11.  However, with one on the bench, you have a player to come on who can do real damage.

The reason giving for former manager Halilhodžić departure just before the World Cup was the lack of tactical awareness. It will then be keen for Japan so show this summer that under the new management team they can adapt tactically.

Confidence in these friendly games and I will use these two games to get the best preparation possible." These two games will be against Switzerland on Friday followed by Paraguay on the 12th June with the Colombia game in the World Cup then coming on the 19th June.

If the team can really improve in these two friendlies is unlikely but they can gel more as a unit and be ready for the World Cup with confidence in the camp.
