Taiwan women's team lose in AFC Futsal quarter final

Taiwan's women's futsal team did exceptionally well in the AFC Women's futsal that just took place in Thailand. The women surpassed the men by finishing second in a group containing Vietnam, Malaysia, and Bangladesh.

Bangladesh was always going to be the weakest team in the group and as expected finished bottom which made it a straight three-way fight for the final two qualifying spots. Taiwan faced group favourites Vietnam in their first game, narrowly losing 1-0. They then crucially defeated Malaysia meaning they just had to beat Bangladesh to qualify for the quarterfinals.

Taiwan went on to defeat Bangladesh 6-1 setting up a quarter-final tie with hosts Thailand. Taiwan had already done great to get this far in the competition, so getting past Thailand would likely be a step too far for the Taiwanese girls. And that was how it turned out, with Taiwan losing the game 6-1, however, they will head back to Taipei with their heads held high after progressing further than was expected.
