Hong Kong - Weekend Finale

The Hong Kong Premier League HKL comes to an end this weekend and it's been an interesting season with Kitchee going into the final day unbeaten. As Hong Kong Rangers sit bottom of the league with only five points and Kitchee 13 points clear at the top both halves of the table were decided long ago.

However, we do have a two way battle for second. This is important as the club who claim this place could get an AFC Cup spot. The position otherwise goes to the FA Cup winners if Kitchee doesn't win this at the end of the month against Tai Po.

Now to look at how the battle for second looks with both Pegasus and Tai Po on 34 points with Pegasus currently in second place. They now face each other on the final day of the season in a battle for second.

Going into this game you would have Tai Po as slight favourites as they are now in the FA Cup final and have won three back to back games. Meanwhile, Pegasus have stuttered of late and have not won in three. A draw however in this match would mean Pegasus will finish second on the head to head rule.

Away from the battle for second and back to Kitchee Diego Forlan paraded the new home kit for his side at the beginning of the week. This was followed by him announcing he is leaving the club at the end of the month and most probably retiring. Meaning that the former Manchester United star will be playing only two more times in his career. The first of these games being against Yuen Long at the weekend and then the FA Cup final on the 26th May against Tai Po.

Another story of the league which is not such a good one is the chance Yuen Long game against Kitchee could be the clubs last ever. Last week the club played in front of 2,000 home fans and it is thought a lot turned up to say goodbye to the club for good.

After the game, club chairman Wilson Wong said on the matter that there is a 50-50 chance in them finding a new sponsorship deal before HKL's deadline on 31st May. He went on to add some new possible sponsors are in contact with the club, so we shall await an announcement on this.

Hopefully, with second place still to be decided and team and players, pride on the line the final games of the season will be an entertaining one and we hope that Yuen Long are not playing their last ever match.
