24-team Club World Cup

A plan is in place for a 24 team Club World Cup as the football powers that be have begun to debate such an idea.

It's been reported that last week ahead of the Europa League final in Lyon, the governing body of European football held a meeting to discuss such a plan. Although it is thought the approach has already been met with hostility.

This is FIFA president Gianni Infantino plan to change up the Club World Cup from seven clubs to 24.

You guessed it the thinking behind the idea is to generate more money. As it's been reported that FIFA has an offer of $25 billion over 12 years to sponsor the tournament from two companies. These are thought to be SoftBank from Japan and the governments of China and Saudi Arabia.

That would mean FIFA could offer clubs taking part large amounts of money which you would imagine would entice them to play.

Although this has been met with some scepticism from people, Real Madrid and Barcelona have both come out in support of such an idea. This is not much of a surprise of course as these are two clubs that could benefit hugely from it.

We should expect an announcement soon as to if this will go ahead with the consortium giving FIFA a 60-day deadline at the beginning of May on their sponsorship offers.
