Kitchee are Champions

Kitchee regained the Hong Kong Premier League championship this weekend with four games to spare. In truth undoubtedly from very early on this season, it was clear Kitchee would run away with the league and this weekend result confirmed a title that was expected for weeks.

The title was won against Pegasus FC in a match between first and second. It would have been hoped for people wanting more competitive action in the league that this match could have been more of a title decider. However, in truth, the only thing Pegasus FC would have done with a win is delayed the inevitable.

The goal to win the game came after four minutes from the forward Lucas in what proved to be the only goal of the game as the champions run out 1-0 winners to secure the league.

After the game, Kitchee midfielder Huang Yang said, "It is great for the team to defeat Hong Kong Pegasus and successfully defend the title. In fact, the ability to win the Premier League title this season has not been easy. As there have been some veterans out there with tired legs, so that the effectiveness of veterans on the team was still huge they had less playing time. They still, however, did assist the team especially in the AFC Champions League and helped in all competitions and many times helped us gain the three points. We can now finally breathe a sigh of relief."

It is clear from Huang Yang statement that he feels the experience in the side helped a lot in the team winning the league and also getting a win the in the AFC Champions League.
Where this side goes from here is unclear and if the gap will narrow next season remains unclear. Tobias Zuser the found of Offisde Hong Kong, however, doesn't seem confident of other sides catching Kitchee as was clear in the tweet below.
