Taiwan’s manager checks on star players

Taiwan manager Gary White and assistant manager Louis Lancaster travelled to China to check on Taiwan’s star players in the opening weekend of China’s League One. There were four Taiwanese players involved in the opening weekend of China’s second tier.

First, they headed to Hangzhou to see Taiwan’s captain Chen Po-Liang and they were in for a bit of a surprise as Po-Liang was named Hangzhou Greentown captain. The new captain and his Hangzhou side got their season up and running with a defeating Nei Mongol Zhongyou 2-0.

After seeing Chen Po-Liang become the new captain of his side by securing the first-day victory in Hangzhou, the pair then headed north to Beijing. Their destination was the Olympic Sports centre which is the home of Beijing Enterprises. The Taiwan management team were there to watch over two prominent Taiwanese players in the fight to gain popularity for the sport amongst Taiwanese sports fans – Chen Hao-Wei and Wen Chih-Hao.

Wen Chih-Hao started the game and scored the first goal, but Chen Hao-Wei had to make do with starting the game on the bench. Taiwan’s management team were not to leave disappointed though as Chen Hao-Wei was introduced into the game as an early second-half substitute and put in a good performance with Bejing Enterprises scoring all their goals after his introduction. Bejing Enterprises were 3-0 victors against Zhejiang Yitang.

Another Taiwanese player who they didn’t manage to check on the person due to the fixtures being played at the same time was Yaki Yen. There’s no doubt that they were aware of Yaki and were informed of how he was getting on.

The season couldn’t have started better for Yaki who had a great debut for his new club Qingdao Huanghai as he toe-poked in a debut goal from a goalmouth scramble. Qingdao Huanghai who Wild East Football claim play the best football outside of the Chinese Super League defeated Dalian Transcendence 4-2.

This rounded off an excellent opening weekend for Taiwanese players in the first weekend of China’s League One new season. This would have had Gary White and Louis Lancaster smiling from ear to ear on the flight back to Taipei about the future of Taiwanese football.
