Shin Tae-Yong - Excited for South Korea

Confidence seems to be growing in South Korea as the World Cup countdown speeds up. As this month Shin Tae-Yong the South Korean coach said he believes there is a possibility that his side can reach the round of 16 at the World Cup this summer.

Shin was returning home after examining Europe-based players ahead of South Korea's World Cup warm-up matches at the end of the month. South Korea has a hard group as they were drawn in Group F with defending champions Germany, Mexico and Sweden. Despite this Shin Tae-Yong said this when questioned on his side's chances this summer.

"If we work harder and prepare for the tournament thoroughly, I think we can achieve our goal. There is obviously pressure, but if fans can give us more support, our players will get more energy and do their jobs well."

In this latest trip to Europe, Shin caught up on Koo Ja-cheol of FC Augsburg and Ji Dong-won of Darmstadt, who both play in Germany, and Hwang Hee-chan, a striker for Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg. He said on these players;

"I liked Hwang's aggressive plays to create opportunities for the team, although he didn't score many goals. Koo was doing fine although he had a cold. Ji had some muscle problem in his ankle, so he wasn't fit."

Now with Shin's side having friendly matches with Northern Ireland and Poland this month, the World Cup seems to be getting closer by the day. The South Korean coach now seems to have a good idea of the players that he likes, having said the following when asked about his players.

"I spent two or three years with most of the players, so I know who they are. There will be some variables like injuries, but my plan for the final squad is almost done. Since the preliminary entry for the World Cup has been extended from 30 players to 35, I'm going to select my final 23-man squad from that list."

The squad for the friendlies this month as also been announced as seen below;
