Round two of the J League

The J League had it's second round of games over the weekend, with the table starting to take a bit of shape. There are now only three teams on maximum points after two games, Nagoya Grampus, Sanfrecce Hiroshima and Vegalta Sendai. The J League current holders Kawasaki Frontale sit in fourth place on four points.

There were 28 goals over the weekend with a 3-3 draw between Cerezo Osaka 3-3 Consadole Sapporo being one of two games with six goals. While Kawasaki Frontale the Japanise champions could only manage a draw against Shonan Bellmare at home.

There were a few standout performances over the weekend and with four teams keeping clean sheets and three tight 1-0 wins it could go to a defender or a keeper. However, here at From the Tofu Bowl, we love goals so will give the player of the week award to Yoichiro Kakitani (pictured below) of Cerezo Osaka as he scored and got an assist with a lovely backheel. You can see the highlights from the game that finished Cerezo Osaka 3-3 Consadole Sapporo below.

Elsewhere Shimizu S-Pulse runs out 4-2 surprise winners over Vissel Kobe away from home. The game was a cracker as were pegged back from two goals up to 2-2. The away side did pull away in the end with two goals in the last 20 minutes and won the match 4-2.

In a four-goal classic V-Varen Nagasaki drew 2-2 with Sagan Tosu in a game in which the home side led by two goals till the 60th-minute mark. Sgan Tosu will be far happier with the point as V-Varen Nagasaki wherein the lead after only two minutes through a Takashi Sawada goal.

The league is now taking some shape although I do expect the top four to have a different look in a few weeks time. However am sure Nagoya Grampus will be very happy to sit top after two games.
