Rafael Silva to China's second league

This week it was announced that the Asian Champions League holders Urawa Reds striker Rafael Silva was heading to China. Silva will be joining Wuhan Zall Chinese League One side Wuhan Zall FC. This will be a big blow for Urawa Reds as the striker notched up 12 league goals and 11 Asian Champions League goals last season.

Going from the Asian Champions League winner to a team in the second league in China does seem a huge step-down. It would seem like some of this move will be down to money, unfortunately. The transfer fee is thought to be around £4.5 million proving that this may well be the case.

However am sure Rafael Silva will be hoping to help Wuhan Zall get promoted this season to the Chinese Super League as be becomes their second foreign import of the summer along with Sammir a Creational international signed from Dinamo Zagreb.

Silva also did not leave without a heavy heart also saying in a statement;

I only spent a year with Urawa Reds, but I think I gave my best effort every day.

I’m proud that I was able to contribute to the club’s history and I want to leave with my head held high.

In addition to winning a title that meant so much to me, I grew so much as a man in this year. Nothing in my life will ever be able to replace my experiences or achievements here.
