Erchim FC - Mongolian Champions

The Mongolian season is getting underway in April, this is later than many other Leagues around East Asia due to the cold temperatures in Mongolia. So before the season starts we take a look at the current Mongolian Champions Erchim FC. The club that is based in Ulaanbaatar, the Mongolian capital.

Erchim FC as a football club was founded back in 1994 and entered the Mongolian Premier League in 1996 when the league began. They have since gone on to win the league ten times the most recent of course being last season in 2017.

In 2012 the club also was giving the chance to play in the AFC President's Cup. The competition was meant to be for emerging Asian Club sides but only lasted 9 years between 2005 and 2014. They qualified to enter the competition as they won the Mongolian Super Cup which is a game against the winners of the League and the Mongolian FA Cup.

Since 2016 Erchim FC have since gone on to represent Mongolia in the AFC Cup after the disbanding of the AFC President's Cup. The AFC Cup started in 2004 and is again aimed at emerging talented clubs and is the second major club competition in Asia after the Asian Champions League.

The club plays in white and black while their home games take place at the Erhhim Stadium (pictured below), they are the only club in Mongolia to have their own stadium. The 2,000 capacity stadium is pretty unique also as the backdrop to the ground is mountains and a power station. The power station named Thermal Power Plant No. 4 also owns the club.

Last season Erhhim won the league by 4 points ahead of Ulaanbaatar City while scoring 47 goals in the 18 game season. This season it is expected to be a race between these two teams again although it will be some battle to beat Erchim to the title as the side as now won the league 5 years in a row and will be looking to make it 6.
